Plein Air Art Tour

Experience Normandy on this art extravaganza while staying at centrally located Chateaus in Normandy with Plein Air Artist, TBA. Learn to paint plein air style with her while exploring unique settings along waterfront towns, villages and Giverny. See where the impressionists took their inspiration and visit local artisans. Discover the art that you have only read and heard about firsthand in local museums. Plein Air Art Workshop with Becky Joy is your rare opportunity to get to know Normandy through an artists eye.

Day 1 – Paris/Chateau Chantilly
Pick up at Charles De Gaulle Airport in Paris and drive to Chantilly for one night.
Overnight Chateau Chantilly

Day 2 – Chateau Chantilly/Drive to Chateau Sommesnil
Explore the Chateau Chantilly with opportunity to paint.
NOTE: Painting session will be 3 hours

See medieval manuscripts, tapestries, furniture, and paintings.
View works by Italian painter, Raphael and French painter, Jean Fouquet.
Drive to Chateau Sommesnil and overnight. Chateau Sommesnil

Day 3 – Giverny/Chateau Sommesnil
Drive along the Seine to the village of Giverny, where the impressionist artist Monet lived for the last 43 years of his life. See the famous water garden which he painted many times.
NOTE: Painting session will be 3 hour

Return to Chateau Sommesnil.

Day 4 – Honfleur/Chateau Sommesnil
Learn to paint watermills near the Chateau in the morning and then a visit to Honfleur.
NOTE: Painting session will be 3 hours

In Honfleur visit the church Saint Catherine to see the pipe organ and the carvings of medieval instruments into the railing below the organ. Visit the Eugene Boudin Museum to view Norman costumes, painting by Boudin and Rachet. If you are feeling as though you would like some exercise take the steep 15-minute walk up to the Cote de Grace viewpoint. There is much shopping available in Honfleur or have refreshment near the harbor.

Return to Chateau Sommesnil.

Day 5 – Small Village/Rouen/Chateau Sommesnil
In the morning, paint in a small village near the Chateau.
NOTE: Painting session will be 3 hours

Today we discover Rouen. Visit the Cathedrale Notre-Dame crowned with the highest spire in France and painted many times by Monet. Visit the Abbaye St. Quen noted for its stained glass windows. Visit the Musee des Beaux Arts which is one of Rouen’s cultural mainstays. The museum is noted for its scintillating collection of paintings and sculptures for the 16th to the 20th century. See the works by Caravaggio, Velasquex, Poussin, Monet, Renoir, and Sisley.

Day 6 – Bayeux/ Chateau Sommesnil
Leisure drive to Bayeux to visit the Cathedral and the see the 230-foot tapestry telling the story of William the Conqueror’s rise from duke of Normandy to king of England. Paint in Bayeux.
NOTE: Painting session will be 3 hours

Return to Chateau Sommesnil.

Day 7 – Etretat/Chateau Sommesnil
Early morning paint near the Chateau.
NOTE: Painting session will be 3 hours

Later a visit to Etretat on the Normandy coast. At first it may not look inviting but at closer look will reveal spectacular stone formations famously immortalized in paintings by the Impressionists (Monet, Boudin and Maupassant). In early morning or late evening, you’ll see what captured their interest.

Return to Chateau Sommesnil.

Day 8 – Chateau Sommesnil/Paris Airport or Paris
After breakfast you will be driven to Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris for your flight homebound or Paris for your tour extension.
