Book Fairs held in Calcutta and Delhi each year are an unique experience for a lover of books. Calcutta’s annual book fair showcases the best of not just Indian publishers, but also booksellers, writers and bibliophiles from all corners of the globe. Visitors to the fair make their way in and out of the colorful stalls, stopping every now and then to grab a bite, get their portraits painted or just listen to the music filtering through the fair grounds. This is Asia’s largest book fair and many Kolkatans consider it an inherent part of Kolkata’s culture. The Book Fair held in Delhi each year is a mega-event. Day 1 – Delhi
Arrive in Delhi where you will be met and driven to your hotel. Tour India Gate and the Mughal monuments of Humayun’s Tomb and Qutab Minar.
Day 2 – Delhi/Kolkata
Fly to Kolkata where you will be met and driven to your hotel.
Day 3 – Kolkata
Visit Victoria’s Monument and the National Museum. In the afternoon enjoy your introduction to Kolkata’s unique Antiquarian Book Fair. Your guide is an antiquarian specialist and will guide you through the stalls stacked with books, new and old.
Day 4 – Kolkata
Today continue your exploration of Kolkata which includes a visit to its botanical gardens, considered one of India’s finest examples, set amidst serene lakes and manicured lawns and featuring the world’s largest banyan tree. This afternoon return to the Antiquarian Book Fair.
Day 5 – Kolkata/Delhi
Fly to Delhi where you will be met and driven to your hotel.
Day 6 – Delhi
Today spend your time at Delhi’s Book Fair with your antiquarian specialist.
Day 7 – Delhi/Agra/Delhi
Today board the Shatabdi Express train to Agra. Here you will visit the famed Taj Mahal, the ultimate monument to love. See the sandstone Agra Fort with its palaces and hall of public and private audience. This afternoon drive a short distance outside of Agra to the deserted capital city of Fatehpur Sikri, a fort and palaces frozen in time. This evening return by train to Delhi and your hotel.
Day 8 – Depart Delhi
Transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
