“We wanted to do a trek in Nepal during our young teenage daughter’s summer break when the trekking conditions in Nepal are often less than ideal and somewhat more limited. We serendipitously stumbled upon Teri after a few ditched attempts to make arrangements on our own online through various local Nepali trekking companies. For us going through Teri was the very best thing we could have done, and gave us assurances our needs would be met (trek itinerary and side trips, extended duration, getting permits in order, reserving our front-back stays in Thamel (per our request), travel insurance, and other logistics, etc.). Absolutely everything was taken care of by Teri and her ground operators. Most importantly, Teri hooked us up with perhaps the very best guide-porter team in all of Nepal.

The prospect of spending two and a half weeks with someone you have never met can be intimidating, but our trekking guide, Purna, was thoroughly professional, knowledgeable, and (bonus) entirely likeable. He had obviously trekked the Upper Mustang route many times and was respected and well-liked by the teahouse operators in the area, and also by our two hardworking porters (Deepak and Shankar). Purna’s team made the very most out of our trekking experience, and struck the right balance of attentiveness and personal downtime. They also helped us manage multiple plane cancellations (due to weather) requiring a mix of creative and high-spirited ways to return from Jomsom to Kathmandu.

Although the primary intent of our trip was trekking, another bonus of the trip was 2-days of sightseeing around and outside Kathmandu. We did not anticipate how difficult this would have been without a guide. Having a knowledgeable guide and a reliable driver was an unexpected treat, but also highly recommended. I want to add a bit about my experience at Rancho La Puerta. It is definitely a tasteful, picturesque and upscale wellness destination. The food was good and attractively prepared. The resort was generous with the quality, quantity and availability of meals and snacks. The menu was largely low protein, gluten, dairy and sugar free and very “nice,” not vegan glop. Meals are communal and dinner is a white cloth served meal. Cooking instructor was top notch. Exercise and yoga classes were diverse and continuous throughout the day. The instructors were the best teachers I’ve ever had. The interior decor, facilities and gardens were tasteful and immaculate. It’s quiet at the three pools and hot tubs. The mountain scenery was beautiful. Staff seemed very sincere and well trained. It is a very thoughtfully and carefully managed resort. It has an independent (vs. chain) type of personal service.
