Textiles of the Golden Triangle (10 days)

The textiles of India’s Golden Triangle reflect the rich heritage and diversity of tradition believed to originate in the Indus Valley civilization.  Learn about this heritage by visiting silk factories in Varanasi, carpet weavers and marble cutters in Agra and puppet makers in Jaipur. Take a sunrise boat tour on the Ganges River. See Sarnath, the place that the Buddha first taught. Visit museums which help keep cottage industries alive. Explore historical monuments and sites. See the sun rise over the Taj Mahal and learn about its story. Discover the palaces in Jaipur. Textiles of the Golden Triangle is your chance to touch the fabric of Indian life.

Day 1 –Delhi
Arrive in Delhi where you will be met and driven to driven to your hotel.  Rest of the day is at leisure.

Day 2 – Delhi
After breakfast visit Delhi’s Crafts Museum.  Afternoon tour Old Delhi which includes visiting the Red Fort, India’s Gate, Humayan’s Tomb, Mehrauli Qutab Minar and Jama Masjid Mosque.

 
Day 3 – Delhi/Varanasi

You will be driven to the airport for your flight to Varanasi.  You will be met and driven to your hotel.    Visit Sarnath, where the Buddha first taught.

Day 4 – Varanasi
Early morning you take a boat ride down the Ganges at sunrise.  Visit silk making factory/shop and see how silk is made and the wonderful variety of colors, weights and textures due to its refinement.  You attend Aarti ceremony in the evening by transport mode of rickshaw.

Day 5 – Varanasi/Agra
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Delhi where you will be met and then driven onward to Agra.  Settle into your accommodations.

Day 6 – Agra
See the sunrise over the Taj Mahal & tour. Visit a marble cutting demonstration and carpet weaving factory where you will see an array of different patterns and designs.

Day 7 – Agra/Jaipur
You will be met at your hotel and driven to Jaipur via Fatehpur Sikri, a complex of ancient buildings and palaces which was declared a UNESCO world Heritage Site in1986. Check into your hotel and enjoy the rest of your day at leisure.

Day 8 – Jaipur
Ride an elephant in the morning and visit the Amber Fort.  In the afternoon you will be met at your hotel and taken to a puppet making factory in Puppet Nagar to see how those wonderful wooden puppets are produced.

Day 9 – Jaipur
Morning city tour of the Hawa Mahal,City Palace Complex, Jantar Mantar Observatory. In the afternoon enjoy traditional Rajasthani applique making or tie dying factory / block painting.

Day 10 –  Depart Jaipur/Delhi
Transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
