Chateau Sommesnil

Chateau Sommesnil has recently been fully restored. The chateau will be solely occupied by you when you are there. All bedrooms have en suite facilities with either shower or bath. The range of services included are from total self- catering to fully serviced. Your stay includes a continental breakfast daily. There will always be a representative and handyman onsite.

All bedrooms have en suite facilities with either shower or bath. At present there are 2 large main bedrooms, a balcony bedroom and a gold bedroom, and two other bedrooms which are larger and more palatial. There is also a medium sized blue room and the smallest is the red room. In addition to the above are two bedroom suites with two double beds, a large sitting room and one bathroom per suite. Later in 2012 there will be a six bedrooms added all with en suite facilities.

The usable area of the chateau is the blue salon, the beige salon, the dining room, the formal kitchen and the adjoining cooking area with two cookers, fridges, freezers, cupboards for storage, dishwasher and a washing machine with tumble dryer. All main halls are accessible as are the gardens with the exception of area used by goats and sheep.

You can easily reach the chateau by train or a representative can pick you up in Paris for the one and a half hour drive to it. Private visits to various other chateaus and gardens can be arranged. You can tour
the beautiful towns of Rouen, the historical capital of Normandy on the river Seine and the lovely port of Honfleur at the mouth of the seine are which is 40 minutes away. The area abounds with watermills, churches, French markets and fairs, local restaurants of different styles, prices and cuisine.

The town of Bayeux and the historic Bayeux tapestry is about 1 hour and 30 minutes by car. The evocative American Cemetery at Coleville Sur Mer, Omaha /Utah Beach] is suitable to visit on a day trip together with Point du Hoc of US rangers fame and the town of St Mere Eglise which is a virtual shrine to the 52nd airborne division. The whole area is full of museums, interesting sites and memorials. Films such as The Longest Day and Band of Brothers have been filmed nearby and give a more modern fame to the area.
