Dr. Barry Levine

“I have maintained a fascination with Africa, the wonderful people, the landscape and fantastic sites of the animals in their natural environment since I first set out to discover the continent by crossing the Sahara Desert overland many moons ago. Since then I have explored East Africa with frequent visits and safaris, participated in development and educational projects, along with enjoying many visits with my friends living there.

I have worked on numerous projects in Africa, including the establishment of university programs in Kenya, the African Virtual University World Bank project (to establish universities throughout the continent to help bridge the digital divide) and served as a member of the Kenyan Council of Science and Technology. I have also worked on projects in Armenia, Jordan, India and Peru.

My current focus involves collaborations with Partners in Health surrounding the establishment and enhancements of medical record systems, within Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda.

In addition to these academic pursuits I have thoroughly enjoyed the special wildlife found in East Africa, including treks to the gorillas and chimpanzees in Rwanda, wildlife in Uganda and frequent personal and professional safaris in Kenya. I look forward to sharing these incredible journeys with others, especially in a small group setting.

Aside from these international projects, I serve as Professor of Computer Science at San Francisco State University.”
